Chartika tracks what's popular on YouTube in 111 countries and worldwide. It keeps the history of every chart, so you can see not only what's trending right now, but how long a video or a channel stayed in the charts, how high it got and where.
Where the data comes from
Every hour Chartika requests YouTube's list of most popular videos for each country through the official YouTube Data API — separately for all videos, Music and Gaming. The order of that list is a video's position in the hourly snapshot. Only videos that can be embedded and played on other sites are included.
For the videos and channels that make it into the charts, Chartika also records their public counters — views, likes, comments, subscribers and video counts — once a day while they are tracked. These are the numbers YouTube shows publicly; for example, subscriber counts are rounded by YouTube itself.
How the charts are built
Each hourly position earns points: 100 for #1, 50 for #10, decreasing logarithmically down to 0 at #100. Over a day the points add up, and the daily chart ranks videos by their total — so a video that holds a high position all day ranks above one that peaked for an hour. Days are counted in UTC.
Longer periods — the last 7, 30 and 365 days — rank videos by the points they earned over the whole window. The Worldwide chart combines the points a video earned in all countries. Channel charts sum the points of all of a channel's videos in the chart.
